What to do in Lyon?

Make the most of your stay in Lyon!
Novatech is held in Lyon, a city famous for its history, its cuisine, its architecture, and its museums.

We encourage you to make the most of your stay in our beautiful city. There are many things to see and do; we won’t attempt to present them all to you, but we did want to mention a few ideas, including some with a good link to water.

For a complete list of things to do, we recommend having a look at Visit Lyon and the Only Lyon website.

Some of our favorite:
1. Let’s start right where you are during Novatech; in the 7th District of Lyon, with many things to see and do (although of course, we encourage you not to skive off during Novatech itself!).
2. Visit Vieux Lyon (the ‘old Lyon’), the UNESCO-listed part of the city, full of intact Renaissance and Gothic influences. And full of great restaurants, too!
3. Get a great view of the city from the surrounds of the Fourvière Basilica and Crypt. A truly beautiful historical church and a truly remarkable view of the city. On a clear day you can even see to Mt. Blanc!
4. Take advantage of the We, The Rivers exhibition at the Museum of the Confluences, right at the confluence of the Rhöne and the Saone. The museum itself is a stunning piece of modern architecture, and the exhibition is not to be missed, for anyone interested in rivers!

5. Interested in music, danse, circus? The Nights of Fourvière (French) definitely have something for you (but get in fast – tickets sell out very quickly).
6. Want to relax and soak up nature? There are lots of choices, but our favourite is probably Le Parc de la Tête d’Or. It has something for everyone; a zoo, beautiful botanic gardens, walking/cycling tracks, and a stunning formal rose garden, and all located right within the city centre! You can find many other great parks here.
7. Enjoy the fresh produce of the region, at one of Lyon’s markets.
8. « Where two rivers meet »: an exhibition by British plastic artist Jo Lewis. The exhibition explores the links between Lyon’s famous two rivers, the Rhône and the Saône, and their coming together at The Confluence.
